Summer Solstice
by
Michael R. Gorman
The sun rises from his bed
Into his day of greatest power
The love prince Oengus Og
Gives way to Lugh the great Sun King.
The wise gaze of the Green Man
Sees in each green infant fruit
The coming grandeur of the harvest.
Cernunnos prances proudly
Between green stalks growing heavier
with grain.
Adorned in the bright flowers of summer
Golden poppy and purple heather
The Goddess leaves her maidenhood
Behind and is become mother most
blessed
Pregnant with the coming gifts.
The faeries make great merriment
Dancing, singing, playing
Darting between the worlds
Celebrating the fecundity
Of the divine.
The earth's crystals reflect
The piercing light of the sun's
virility
And the candles wait unlit
Water and honey flow abundantly
And the rich fragrance of the air
Heralds the rising sword of the sun's
potency
And the expectant chalice of the
earth's womb.
