Mariposa High School Papercrete Project 2008

The Papercrete project at the Mariposa High School Track field was a fantastic event. Members of the Mariposa County Unified School District, Cathys Valley Land and Legacy, Yosemite National Park, Motherload Building Materials along with The Chrysalis Institute all joined in and poured a 130 ft by 3 1/2 ft triple jump runway out of papercrete. The community response has been tremendously positive and we have received calls and emails about using papercrete in place of conventional concrete. We have taken one of the first steps to recycling/reusing and helping our community to think outside of the box. Chrysalis members, Well Done.

Step It Up Sierra 2007 - A wonderful Success!!

The SIUS celebration was a fantastic success. There were many wonderful organizations, vendors, music and food. We had between 50-75 visitors to our booth asking many questions. There were good speakers and had an opportunity to talk to many people that were in line with what we are all about. I want to take this time to thank all the members who volunteered their time and energy to make this a success as well as the whole Step It Up Sierra crew (Bridget, Naomi, Judy and all the others that put this event on.)

501 (c) 3 Status

We are now a 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt organization. What does that mean?

As a 501(c)3 organization, we are federally recognized as a public education charity organization and are tax-exempt. This gives us the opportunity to accept donations, gifts, property, etc. and allows the donors to take a tax credit for the donations. It also allows us to apply for grants that normally would not be available to us.

Do we have to be a 501 (c) 3 organization to exist?

No. We have been around for 2 years without it, although it does help with funding and offers our supporters a tax break on donations.

New Board Member

We are happy to announce that Charlotte Randolph has been selected as a member of the Board of Directors for The Chrysalis Institute. Charlotte was nominated by Kevin Bowman and was voted in by a unanimous vote. Charlotte brings the desire and enthusiasm to make a difference in the world and we all welcome her aboard.

Step It Up Sierra 2007

We are honored to be partnering with Bridgett Fithian of Step It Up Sierra 2007 to help host the Climate Change Festival here in Mariposa on Nov. 3. We will be working with Bridgett on advertising the event, helping to organize the speakers, music, food, etc. as well as acting as the fiscal sponsor for the event. This is a wonderful opportunity to get our organization out to the local community.

New Banner

We have ordered a new 2' x 8' vinyl banner with our name and logo. We solicited art work for the logo from our members and ended up with combining the logo from member Sam Fluharty and Erika Thomas to produce the final banner version of our logo. We hope to receive it within the second week of Oct.

VolunteerMatch.org

We have registered with VolunteerMatch to solicit volunteers to help with grant writing and to build a volunteer list to help with workshops and events.
